Farm Traceability

Know exactly which farm, which boundary and which harvest.

HeritageIQ gives each farm a durable identity and a mapped boundary with a full version history, then ties every harvest to the boundary that applied on the day it was picked.

The problem

Farm lists drift. Boundaries get redrawn. The link to the harvest is lost.

Supplier lists are often spreadsheets with a farm name and a rough location. When a boundary is corrected, the old one is simply overwritten.

A year later nobody can show which boundary applied to a given harvest, or whether two farms' boundaries overlapped at the time.

What HeritageIQ does

A farm record that keeps its history.

Farm identity

One durable record per farm

Each farm has a permanent identifier, its owners and managers, and the people authorised to submit records for it.

Boundary versions

Corrections add a version

A boundary is valid from a start date. A correction creates a new version and closes the old one; the earlier version is kept, never edited.

Checked geometry

Area calculated by HeritageIQ

Boundaries must be a valid shape without crossing edges. HeritageIQ calculates the area itself instead of trusting a typed-in figure.

Harvest link

Harvests pinned to their boundary

Each accepted harvest records the boundary version in effect on its harvest date, so the link survives later corrections.

Workflow

From a first map to an accepted boundary.

  1. Create the farm

The owner sets up the farm online, or the HeritageIQ team does it during onboarding.

  2. Capture the boundary

Walk the edge or tap corners in HeriShamba, or draw it on the web during onboarding.

  3. Review and accept

Submitted boundaries arrive as drafts. The HeritageIQ team reviews them before they become the farm's accepted boundary.

  4. Record harvests

Harvests recorded from then on are tied to the accepted boundary for their date.

Who it serves

Anyone who has to name the farm

  • Cooperatives and producer organisations with many member farms
  • Estates with several blocks or neighbouring farms
  • Exporters and marketing agents building supplier lists
  • Farmers who want their farm clearly identified to buyers

Practical value

What you can answer

  • Where each supplying farm is, with a mapped boundary
  • Which boundary applied to a harvest, even after corrections
  • How boundaries changed over time, and when
  • The geolocation behind a lot's origin claim

Good to know

Location data is handled carefully.

  • Raw boundary coordinates are not published in public Passports.
  • HeritageIQ records and checks the boundary it is given. It does not survey land or confirm legal ownership.

Coffee pilot

See it working on your coffee.

We will walk you through a demo farm, a sample lot and its Passport, then scope a pilot around one of your own farms or lots.
